The Burden of Comfort

Too much Comfort is the killer of big dreams, it’s the reason why children of the super-rich most times do not eclipse their parent’s achievements, while we hear many rags to riches comparisons.
The Western Climates can be very harsh in that they hardly work all year due to snow, hurricanes, etc, their natural soil can be very improper for Agricultural usage; however, they used these conditions to innovate and overcome these conditions and are tagged ” Developed World”. On the other hand, in most parts of Africa, you can plant all year, weather is so soothing that we all can work all year, yet we are the least developed continent and the poorest by a mile.
I strongly believe our comfort makes us engage in unnecessary ethnic and religious violence, civil wars, and various ills that can make our stories so despicable to other climes. How can you be the richest continent in mineral deposits and be the poorest in per capital income? It shows glaringly that we are just too lazy mentally. Same laziness makes us believe the Government must do everything while we sit back and rant; rather than complain about our leaders, why can’t we develop ourselves to become institutions that will influence our people positively, and thereby gain leadership?
Africans must wakeup to reality that our change only comes from strategic doings and not mere rantings. A deliberate approach to developing the continent must be borne out of the need to be both patriotic and create economic prosperity both for ourselves and the society we live in.
